"Too small and too squat, all the half-man had going for him was his good mood and his enthusiasm. Joyful, he went out seeking adventure while innocently believing that they would cost him nothing, that through force of will he could face any obstacle. And I, who had seen him grow up ,I did nott have the strength to tell him the truth, to reveal to him that all adventures always beara heavy cost to those taken by it.
